2008 New Executive Director at Alpha II, Inc. Alpha II, Inc. would like to welcome Kari Scott as the new Executive Director of the organization. Kari is a resident of Tonkawa, OK. She has a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Management from the University of Central Oklahoma and is currently working on her Masters in Adult Education and Administration from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Kari has great experience working with non profit organizations and the Alpha 2 looks forward to future success under her leadership. Click here to view the full press release about Kari. Representative Dale DeWitt Recognizes Alpha II, Inc. In honor of Alpha II, Inc.'s 30th Anniversary, Representative Dale Dewitt and the Oklahoma House of Representatives extended a sincere congratulations to Alpha 2 for our thirty years of success. A decree was presented to Alpha 2 in honor of the organization making a difference is people's lives for thirty years. Providing second chances and offering hope, dignity and respect for all. Alpha 2 takes great pride in the services we provide to promote the quality of life and emotional well being of Oklahomans through the delivery of community based substance abuse services. Alpha II, Inc. 30th Anniversary Celebration This year marked Alpha 2's 30th Anniversary! To celebrate Alpha 2 and the A2 Foundation hosted a fundraising dinner Saturday, Nov. 15th at the Renfro Center as the kick off to the capital fundraising campaign for a new client dormitory on the Alpha 2 campus. Guest enjoyed a silent auction with some great items, a mouth watering five course meal, client testimonials, and presentation by Michael Snowden on the Crystal Darkness campaign and what substance abuse can do to communities. With everyone's help we raised nearly $15,000 at the event! Alpha 2 would like to thank everyone that attended, Senator David Myers, Jack Kelly and Kelly Epps from ODMHSA, Traci Looney, Phil Bandy, Alpha 2 staff, A2 Foundation members, Alpha II, Inc. board members, table sponsors and all donors for helping Alpha 2 celebrate 30 years of success! Alpha 2 Now Has A Monthly Newsletter! Alpha 2 will be sending out a monthly newsletter beginning at the first of every month! The newsletter will include upcoming events, past events, press releases, donation information, and job information. It is a great way to stay connected with what Alpha 2 is doing. Alpha 2 Celebrates Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is an eight day celebration in honor or DEA agent Enrique Camarena, who lost his life fighting the war against drugs. Today, the celebration has become the annual catalyst to show intolerance for drugs in our schools, work places, and communities. Alpha 2 staff and clients have partnered with the Tonkawa Police Department to hang red ribbons on the Alpha 2 campus as well as downtown Tonkawa. Alpha 2 staff and clients are also wearing red ribbons in honor of the celebration.
Alpha 2 Golf Tournament - A Great Success! Alpha II, Inc. hosted our First Annual Golf Tournament Saturday, August 16th at the Blackwell Golf Course. There was a great turnout. Thirteen teams competed and the tournament raised nearly $7000 in cash and prizes. 1st Place went to Derek Sinor, Norman Humble, Doug Sinor, and Ray Sinor with a score of 15 under par! 2nd place went to Jeff Ray, Justin Shepherd, Jennifer Schneeburger, and Keith Fletcher. 3rd place went to Kurt Campbell, Stewy, Chris Cox, and Bart Cardwell. Closest to the Pin for women went to Kamera Salisbury and Closest to the Pin for men went to Don James. Longest putt went to Steve Young. Congratulations to all of our top finishers and contest winners! Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers. Alpha 2 Celebrated Recovery Month!! Recovery Month is an annual observance that takes place in the month of September. It provides a platform to celebrate people in recovery and those who serve them. Recovery Month also helps educate the public on substance abuse. Substance abuse is a national crisis, it is an addiction and it is treatable! To go the Recovery Month website click here. Alpha 2 celebrated Recovery Month on our campus during September. Every Friday clients and staff participated in food and games in honor of recovery.
Alpha 2 Participated in National Night Out Alpha II, Inc. participated in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th at Memorial Park in Blackwell, OK. The celebration was to prevent drugs and crime in our community. Alpha 2 had a booth there and handed out drug free bracelets and information on drugs and alcohol as well as information on Alpha 2. Thanks to all who stopped by the Alpha 2 booth!
Alpha 2 Employees Raise Money for Relay for Life Alpha II, Inc. employees partnered with Cool Rush Water and Ice of Blackwell to form a relay team for this year's Relay For Life 2008. The team raised $2,200 and are on the Bronze team for money raised. Alpha II, Inc. was a Silver Level Corporate Sponsor for the event. Employees participated in events all night and even won the Hot Babe Contest and got second in the Suitcase Relay!
Bill Selvey Retires from Board
Alpha 2 Announces new Board of Directors & Officers for FY 2009 Alpha 2 is pleased to announce the following new member of the Board of Directors: Kirk Henderson. Mr. Henderson has replaced Bill Selvey (1995-2008) who stepped down in May. Officers for FY 2008 will be installed in the June 2008 board meeting and are as follows: Jason Johnson -- President Igor Vysotsky -- Vice President Joanna Ware -- Secretary Kirk Henderson -- Treasurer
United Way selects Alpha II, Inc. as a Sponsored Agency The organization recently received word that they have been selected as United Way beneficiary for the upcoming year. The Blackwell United Way is the local agency that has partnered with Alpha 2.
Insurance Benefits Provided to Employees The organization has recently upgraded its employee benefits to include 100% paid insurance for employees. Along with health insurance, employees are provided with dental, vision, and term life insurance benefits. Insurance is provided through United Healthcare.
Alpha II, Inc. Cancels Department of Corrections Contract Alpha II, Inc. is please to announce the it has cancelled its contract with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Alpha 2 will no longer house DOC inmates beginning March 1, 2008. This change will allow us to reconfigure our facilities to house more treatment patients in the very near future. Alpha 2 Awarded 3 Year CARF Accreditation Alpha II, Inc. has recently been awarded CARF accreditation in it's two major programs: Residential Treatment and the Community Housing Program. The organization displayed substantial compliance with the over 800 areas that CARF surveyed. According to the CARF field surveyors only 1 in 5 rehabilitation facilities received CARF accreditation. Annual Picnic Held Alpha 2's Annual Employee Picnic was held July 28, at Ray See Park. A barbeque supper was provided to employees, volunteers, donors, and their families.

Alpha 2 to Participates in American Cancer Society Relay for Life Alpha 2 sent a Team to the Tonkawa Relay for Life Event July 20 & 21. Employees raised over $1,200 for the cause. After an entire night of fun activities and fundraisers, Alpha 2 was awarded the "Most Spirited" team. For more information on Relay for Life, go to www.cancer.org Leadership Tonkawa Visits Alpha 2 Campus Leadership Tonkawa 2007 visited the A2 campus on 5/17/07. The class of 10 community leaders was given an overview of A2's programs by Glenn Scott, CEO and Christine Vencl, Programs Manager. The group also toured the facilities and were treated to lunch in the cafeteria.
Tonkawa Heart in the Park Project Receives Contribution from Alpha 2 and it's Employees A2 and it's employees recently contributed to the Tonkawa Heart in the Park Project Labyrinth Project. For it's contribution A2 will receive a personalized "paver" with the A2 logo. In addition, A2 will be featured in the Oklahoma Centennial timeline which encircles the Labyrinth.

The new members have taken the place of Ken Crowder (1999-2007) and Edward Blackwell (2005-2007) who stepped down in May 2007.
